AS hasn't had robust sevice from DCA for a couple of years when they tried several E-170 routes including DAL. I flew my mother home on AS last week on the single DCA-LAX flight and she told me coach was about 65% full which means mostly sold out on available seats as AS is blocking middles and that F was 9/16 which may be as full as AS is willing F class to be (blocking every other seat save for family groups).
UA was always had a feeder mentality at DCA (flying only to hubs) and that has been significantly reduced.
The enigma is DL which flew a robust schedule to its hubs (owing to its very high passenger count) and some other cities.
