And that's before the sheer hypocrisy as already noted of not being similarly outraged by non-China workarounds like credit card nights, nights for meetings (RIP), double-night promos, and of course the regular status challenge which are seemingly all fine.
Jealousy, nothing more, nothing less. Which is fine because in my experience many Bonvoy hotels in mainland China are a league above the same-brand hotels in the US so there's a lot to be jealous of of our fellow travellers in the Middle Kingdom.
Indeed. Marriott Asia and certain Europe countries treat their elite members way more better than in USA even in high end properties like RC, St Regis, JWM (haven't try any The edition in USA). From my personal experience, chances for rooms upgrade, extra perks given by hotel in Asia (free lounge access in RC, great suite /villa upgrade for RC/ St Regis) way more better than in US. This happened not only in Marriott bonvoy, but same goes to other hotel chains like IHG, Hilton too (As Intercon royal amb, Hilton Diamond).
