Have you confirmed from the aircraft assignment and the seat map when you go to try and change seats that they are in fact assigned first class seats? For example, 6A and 6B maybe first class on many 737s, but if you are swapped to certain planes (AKA LUS 321s) those are coach.

It says Economy. Main Cabin starts at row 7 and my kids are assigned to row 5. 737-800.
