Interesting, I had a trip to Australia booked for this month and the flights from/to Canada and Australia were cancelled (so UA initiated / involuntary).

no, that's different. You can't re-schedule way into the future and they will open PZ for you. If there is a cancellation they will find you a seat on their next available flight, even if PZ is not available. You can definitely work with them in these cases within say a week or so, but saying I want 10 months later and asking for PZ space that's a bit much. Doesn't hurt to try it though
