I asked UA this question yesterday.
A friend of no status and i are travelling to Alabama soon.
Upgrades all fine EXCEPT for SFO-SYD where there is only ONE NC seat.
So ..... if they split the one PNR we are both on, she loses EVERY exit row seat we now have allocated. Agent was nice, and told me computer would do it automatically and unless a supervisor went and over-rode the system they would not be possible.
Tricky deal, so rather than take the one seat, need to ask them to queue off to ORD to shake out another, and hope the first one does not get taken in the meantime.
