The point of the downgrade is not necessarily to redeem, but just to hold onto the points, until they get another AF card (Premier or Prestige) at some later time. Rewards+ will keep your TYP points intact as long as you have it, so you don't have to redeem with it if you're planning on getting another AF card at some point in the future.

Hm, I might go half and half. I think Ill send some point over to Jetblue, which isnt the best, but theres a 95% chance Ill fly with them later this year. Then Ill keep the rest in cold storage, like you say.
