So you can go to a restaurant, order cold and hot items, raw and cooked. It's brought by a server uncovered and that's perfectly fine.

Airline meals are prepared in strict hygienic conditions, where they are covered. Cold items can easily remain covered until placed on a meal tray, so the covering/lid could simply be left on then removed by the customer. Hot items are lower risk still. They go into the galley ovens still covered from when they were produced. That cover/foil etc could be left on for the customer to remove too.

Of course this doesn't cover additional items that may be heated seperately and added just prior to serving, or the likes of breads/pastries or sauces, but these could be served still pre-packaged, as they are currently, or the menu designed so they're not required. It's really not rocket science.

All things considered, I honestly don't see that once passenger numbers pick up a bit, that BA can't provide a half decent food offering whilst still following the regulations. I think the only valid reason for not doing this is that the current offering limits crew and passenger contact, but that doesn't stop crew going up and down with drinks and top ups etc. Additionally, everyone's wearing face coverings and using sanitiser.

Just food (literally) for thought.
