Hertz expects customer to honor the legal contract and return the car on time. They're not at fault.

I don’t. Not my problem. People extend Hotel stays and cars all the time. Sometimes even when there is no inventory. This is why people get walked. it is the fault of the contractor for not Properly managing inventory with a margin of error. Like driving your tank to zero every time. As the customer who was walked (or had to wait for the car) I would never blame the customer before me. Always the vendors fault.
Vendor is also doing business in good faith. If a whole bunch of customers do this, and additional delays due to pandemic related cleaning etc now, of course their margin of error is going to be affected. Knowing that Hertz is going through Chap 11, something like this was bound to happen. Customer is lucky they didnt did pulled over and car got impounded by the new owner
