It's almost as if the hotels are trying to start introducing random taxes, as did the airlines long ago. Resort fees are one thing, but in Europe I am seeing much increased costs for the overnight taxe de séjour or whatever it is called in English. Posters here and elsewhere have said that it's not the hotels, it's the city authorities that impose them (I think the example in my case was in Milan). Fine, but the hotels could push back. I'm ok with 2 or so Euros or francs, but when it goes above 5 I feel I am being scammed. Whether it's right or wrong, it's annoying. And it makes me think twice about travelling to certain places.
