It may be a case of YMMV but to my knowledge my US passport has been stamped every time I've passed through LHR heading into the UK. Plus, I've never had an experience similar to that pointed out by leumas despite very frequent travel to the UK. The agents have to-date been professional and in some instances cordial.

I guess I could chalk it up to arriving on intra-european flights the vast majority of the time.
