FWIW, the top tier numbers in both US Airways Dividend Miles and United's Mileage Plus were leaked somehow (as one of the above posters notes for DM). I was interested at the time and did the math and both were on the order of
0.5% of total members. No idea if same ratio holds for hotel programs but in absence of any other indications would expect so. Then again Marriott's program is differenet than the others in that they give away Silver and make Platinum very hard to achieve (75 nights, no provision for stays). So maybe your
0.25% is valid. I'll bet it's at least a 50% chance it falls between those two values, so 50K to 100K Plats worldwide.
