In the early days of COVID, my company said travel was for business-critical needs only and needed VP approval. Then it turned out our VP approved almost all of the trips. Since we are not supposed to travel for no reason and every trip is tied to revenue somewhat, I guess every trip is business critical. That really made us realize our management was purely providing lip service.
Now, with the numbers worse than ever in the US, a lot of my colleagues started to travel - some to high risk areas. Some even travel consecutive weeks at a time like before. Amazingly, most of our customers are also not cautious enough to this to say "we don't want you flying germs here".
A lot of work can be done remotely. None of my colleagues has refused to travel so far, which I find strange. We wonder if something bad has to happen before our management stops this nonsense. I also wonder what I should / can do if they ask me to travel.
