Mainland require inbound travellers to unlock phones for ELAB material inspection last year

US require inbound travellers to provide access to their social media accounts for terrorist message inspection from a while back. Is this just supplying your social media usernames for public message inspection or do they have the power to read your private messages on your phone at the border too?
