After more than 30+ years in technology, my experience is that developers develop based on specifications written by business owners of the product. Calling developers "stupid" is in itself pretty stupid. Delivering products or features unasked for by the business is not usually rewarded.

Not to say I don't agree that the feature you indicate wouldn't be useful, but rather the reason for the lack of the feature is not because no one knows how to do it.
