AMEX will get you on the exchange rate. Use a MBNA Visa or Mastercard. The Amtrak Mastercard is popular as is the AAA Visa. Both charge nothing extra beyond the MC/Visa 1%. AMEX gets from 2.5 to over 3% and it is hard to tell if you got a good exchange rate.
