You can always request a refund with DL for flights booked very next day. BTW it's not 24hrs, its up till midnight (ie 23:59:59) the next day, thus up to 48hrs. I dont know if still the case,but for flights booked day before, they used to require you cancel/request refund before departure.
That doesn't mean you can risk-free cancel flights departing same day right?
Example:
Friday at 12:01 AM EST: I book a flight
Saturday at 11:15 PM EST: Flight takes off
My understanding is that I wouldn't be able to cancel the flight on Saturday and get a full refund under risk-free in this scenario. (Apologies if I misunderstood this)
