If they mean 12:01 AM of the flight date then I would have to cancel today, which is the same rule as if I were redeeming miles.

Can someone here confirm whether the cancellation deadline is tonight or departure time tomorrow?
You can always request a refund with DL for flights booked very next day. BTW it's not 24hrs, its up till midnight (ie 23:59:59) the next day, thus up to 48hrs. I dont know if still the case,but for flights booked day before, they used to require you cancel/request refund before departure.
