US only joined *A this year, correct? That was after their first run thru bankrupty, and either after or during UA's, right? If true, then fire the lawyers. While you want a marriage to succeed, some people get a prenup to make sure that any legal or financial issues are figured out first. I'm sure everyone in *A wanted US to do well (and I believe one of their requirements for joining was exiting bankrupty), but are you telling me that not one lawyer who worked on them joining foresaw the possibility of them going into BK again?
Until we know for sure which side instituted the window, it's difficult to fully understand what long term implications might be. However in the short term it certainly seems like US and UA members wanting to fly other *A carriers are going to lose.
