Is it possible to get the hotel to honor the rate for a future booking? My understanding is that the Maldives resorts open in mid-July so it appears this hotel has chosen to be safe rather than sorry. If that's the case, I'd think they should be honoring the rates used for existing bookings. However, I emailed them and they said they can't honor either the rate or the free seaplane transfer. Any recourse I can take?

I tried. They wouldn't allow it. Lucky for me I have another reservation with a 7 night booking in December that has a free seaplane transfer.
FWIW, they sent me an email like you but they didn't cancel the reservation yet.
