I don't see the world changing anytime soon, so might as well get it over and done with if you're planning on moving back to Australia. I'd rather a 9 month old than a toddler for a 24 hour flight.

As henrus pointed out with MEL shut to international arrivals and Queensland deciding it doesn't want to do any heavy lifting, SYD has had to impose daily arrivals limits. I'd book now because you might be waiting a while.

ETA: And Western Australia has just been granted a weekly cap of 525 arrivals into PER by the federal government.
