It's certainly been stricter for EU/EEA citizens in the last 6 months: passports are now scanned, as opposed to the previous visual check (and the queues, although still pretty fast, are far longer as a result). The days where you could waltz through waving a passport-like object in the vague direction of an immigration officer are long gone.
