On the plus side, I love afternoon tea and the views are the best in Tokyo. The location also seems ideal.
On the minus side, I am unlikely to be upgraded to lounge access? (I get its way too early to ask for a suite upgrade).
Here is my question..........is the Ritz really worth 85,000 MR points per night?
As a rule, you will not be upgraded to club level at RC properties. Also your profile says platinum and if that's the case you can probably rule out any suite upgrades.

To give you some perspective, my corp rates for the Grand Hyatt, Park Hyatt, Conrad, RC, EDITION, and Prince Gallery all lie between 30-40k yen per night. Of the latter 3 which are Marriott properties that I'd tend to choose due to my status, I would choose the RC last as I find it to be dated and too western feeling, I'd probably choose the Conrad over it as well. There aren't any good photos of the rooms at the EDITION yet but if it looks anything like EDITION hotels in other parts of Asia it's certainly going to be a better hard product than the RC. The Prince Gallery has always been good to me for upgrades, I prefer the corner king room to the standard room at the Aman which is saying quite a bit about the quality.

I would not say the RC is worth 85,000 points per night, but I personally wouldn't spend that at any Tokyo property given the cash rates. I'd use the points in Kyoto or something. If I was going to use my points in Tokyo though, I would probably go to the new EDITION rather than the RC unless I specifically wanted and was going to pay to upgrade to club level.

The photos of some of the dining areas at the EDITION Tokyo look amazing by the way. I personally would rather pay for afternoon tea there on its own than pay for club level at the RC, but to each their own. Being someone who doesn't drink always makes my value calculation of the RC club level very different than most people.
