Ross' Grill is very nice, without being over the top. Our other favorite, more towards fine dining, is The Mews. Both are open off season (though I don't think October is really off season anymore).

Skip dessert at the restaurant, and instead have a wonderful crumbly top fruit pie from Connies Bakery, which is attached to Clem and Ursey's out on Shank Painter Rd. (past the old Gay & P, now a Grand Union). Be sure to order the pie early in the day, and Connie will have it ready for you. She usually only makes crumbly top pies 'by request', so if you just stop in, you're likely to get a regular-topped pie (still good). Having pie back at the house is always a nice way to end an evening, if you're not into the bar scene.
