I know these are 2 separate tickets, but if Alaska or Cathay agreed to put the entire itinerary under one booking (PNR) would travel and transit through HK be allowed? Trying to figure out what "Itinerary is contained in a single booking" exactly means. Thanks

It is theoretically possible to put an award booking and a cash booking in one PNR, but quite tricky to implement in practice. With AS involved (AS is on its own partition of Sabre while CX and AY are both on Amadeus), I think it's basically impossible. Note this is aside from the discussion between one ticket (HKG's requirement) and one booking (CX's interpretation of HKG's requirement).
