Hah! I was pretty surprised by United vs. Delta in this regard. Called United for something (lowly Gold) and got a pickup right away. DM on Delta.. 20 minute wait / callback time. Better than 6-8 hours I suppose!
I've called DL multiple times over the last few months and always gotten someone within 1-2 minutes. Even during the times when they were telling people not to call.
FWIW I always call the 800-323-2323 number.
