My understanding is that your extended warranty protection is via the insurance company, so if you cancel the card youre still covered as per the terms when you made the purchase.
That being said, it seems like a minefield to jump into and probably hours of phone headaches.
read the consumer benefits guide carefully - some of those require the card to still be open to put in a claim. and in other cases you may have to furnish credit card statements to show that your claim is under their coverage - if you have cancelled the card it may be hard to find the statement if the online login is gone. we tend to save big items manuals / receipts in a folder, but even that would have a hiccup if card statements were required (and the card was long gone).
