The only two chains that have hotels in every category and are present everywhere I travel are Hilton and Marriott. The difference is night and day. Even as a comp'd Gold member, Hilton has consistently treated me well at all brands. Water and snacks in the room at the Hampton Inn, upgrades and lounge access or breakfast at the Hiltons I stay at for business. On the flip side, Marriott tells me that I don't qualify for anything I really care about. The only reason I want lounge access is so I can get seltzer or sparkling water without paying through the nose. Not an expensive request. Hilton routinely honors it, Marriott routinely refuses it. So, it's Hilton for me.
