The DMV has publicized this as an automatic official extension until July 31 -- her license to drive has legally not expired, despite the card's date. https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/news-a...al%20guidance. There's a link there to get a paper extension -- if I were her I would do that and just present it with my license as a matter of fact, and escalate to a manager if needed. If she has a Hertz Gold etc account, go in and change the DL expiration date to 7/31.
