BA don't have to offer a flight on a different carrier but often do so on revenue tickets. Depending on the routing they can offer alternative ways to the destination on BA code or when there is a Guideline in place with another airline. There is a requirement to offer alternative ways to complete the journey but there isn't a watertight legal entitlement to always offer a replacement service on the same day with a different airline.
