This is interesting. Stayed at DoubleTree NDSM Wharf Amsterdam last weekend. On my arrival morning, on the Hilton App I was upgraded to a Queen Superior Room, which is a corner room with 270 degrees views of the Y-'river', so I checked in immediately. But arriving at 4 pm I had been downgraded to a regular Queen water view (the one-category upgrade I was entitled to), without any further excuse. Strange, the hotel was at 40% capacity. Now I recently learned that Amsterdam has the highest tourism tax of all places in Europe and they still want to increase that, because the arrogant locals hate tourism, so I'm not really sure that I am going to visit that city again at any time soon. BTW Street parking is also absurd in Amsterdam, but at NDSM you can still park for free roughly 5 minutes away.
I don't care that much about executive lounges, but the fact that it is available for espresso or so, makes you feel so much more welcome. A hotel that would open their lounge these days may expect me to book a couple of nights there.
