Unless things have changed, points.com does not count as a travel purchase. Besides, there is a better way.

Buy any $75 ticket. Cancel it but do not refund. Take the travel credit. Overnight your travel credit will have its expiration moved to September 2022.

Then wait until Southwest deploys its promised conversion of travel funds to points. Then you will have an option to convert to a lot more than 5000 points. Or you can keep the travel credit.
