MPM is not a round trip calculation. It's the total of all segments to and from your point of turnaround, which is defined at the furthest stop from origin.
In your example, I'll assume AUH is a stopover, YVR-ICN-AUH is 9364 miles. For the AUH-YVR portion, you need all segments included to ensure the routing doesn't exceed MPM.
Fly eastward, is literally that. Flying in an easterly direction...going trans atlantic to Asia instead of trans pacific.
