Five of six segments with seat assignments: should sorry about #6?
Hi. about 10 months ago, I booked a trip AUS-MIA-STT for party of two in F. These are revenue seats. Eight months ago I booked 4 additional family members to match the same itinerary (also paid for). I realized about a month ago that the agent made a mistake and those four passengers were returning two months later than our scheduled return. Their mistake was booking it incorrectly but my mistake was not checking it until a month before the trip.
A panicked call to AA, and they were able to get everyone on the same flight STT-MIA in F, and the four in economy for the MIA-AUS leg. Seat assignments for everyone at least, with the exception of one passenger STT-MIA. He shows in F, but no seat assignment. Note: I'm EXP, so I'm used to these little issues, but no one else in my party flies at all (maybe once every 3-5 years).
When I asked the twitter reps and agents on the phone, they all say "we can't assign a seat. We cannot tell you why. You'll have to deal with it at the airport before your return flight." Now, I love the USVI, but if you've ever been to the STT airport, it's pretty much the opposite of efficiency. I most definitely do not want to cause high stress to my non-flying family members, and god forbid have the one passenger left behind because there is no seat for him. When I explained my concern, agents could offer me no assurance that he would end up with a seat on the flight.
Should I just relax and be confident it will all work out, or call American twice a day for the next three weeks (my current plan)? Does anyone know the reason why I can't get him seat assignments? Thanks everyone.
