Yes, to save lifes by protecting the health care system. Flattening the curve was not about reducing the number of people who will get infected, but about distributing that number along a longer time period to allow health care systems to cope (and avoid Italian scenario, where people died because they weren't provided with the medical assistance they needed).

Of course no one has claimed that, because they would have to admit they were wrong. However, if you look at rules that are being introduced in most of Europe, they are almost the same as rules in Sweden (maybe except face masks, but those aren't introduced in other Nordic countries either).
