The best example of this is old-style US hotels with external aircon units attached to windows. Most chains ban these as part of their 'brand standards' so a conversion brand is virtually the only choice the owner has.
Thanks - I admit, that I am not that familiar with VoCo as brand (think one of the former Principal Hotels in Cardiff became the first VoCo in Europe). I had these press release from 2018 in mind as I posted my assumption, where IHG plc mentions VoCo as upscale. Maybe I missed another press release ...
