It's not as simple as that. Sure, you can do a chargeback, but the credit card issuer will ask you what the airline has offered. If you say 'refund but it'll take a while' the call may or may not be over at that point. If you do get a temporary credit, the issuer goes to VS and finds out what the situation is. They'll say that it's being processed for a refund, but could take a while because of high volumes. Not sure if that temporary credit will stick. And all of this chargeback takes time too.
Yes, you need to explain all that to the CC, and reiterate the 7 day rule, and they will issue the credit. Worked for me for two separate VS tickets purchased with two different cards. Took about a week for one and two weeks for the other. Much better than three months to five months.
