It's not as simple as that. Sure, you can do a chargeback, but the credit card issuer will ask you what the airline has offered. If you say 'refund but it'll take a while' the call may or may not be over at that point. If you do get a temporary credit, the issuer goes to VS and finds out what the situation is. They'll say that it's being processed for a refund, but could take a while because of high volumes. Not sure if that temporary credit will stick. And all of this chargeback takes time too.
