thanks all for the good insight! Unfortunately AA cancelled the ORD-BCN flight, so now I have to figure something else out. looking at British Air I can see flights from SFO-LHR, and LHR-BCN, but no SFO-LHR-BCN, all available itineraries are through AA with 2 stops.
