Sheraton Pranburi Villas = Entry Level Room Better than Most Suites in Other Hotels

Introduction We stayed at Sheraton Pranburi Villas back in March and received an upgrade to their top room type which I covered in my previous review. The hotel was forced to close in April and May as per governor’s order and we returned when the hotel re-opened. To my surprise the hotel was fully booked from day 1 so no upgrade was available. It was the first time I stayed here in their entry level room type so I thought I would provide a review of this room type. Room For a Sheraton resort anywhere in the world, I was favorably surprised at how nice the entry level room is. While the room is obviously not as great as the pool villa suite room type, I have personally not seen a Sheraton brand resort with a private pool as big as this one for the basic room elsewhere in the world. Because of the walls on all sides our pool and deck were fully private and our neighbors could not see us. The room itself is much bigger than some suites / villas in many other resorts: it’s a bi-level duplex, lots of space on the ground floor with living room and dining room, full bathroom and small sink in the kitchen with mini-fridge. Upstairs is the bedroom with another full bathroom, dual vanity there and even two showers, one fully outdoors and the other one partially outdoors. There was also a deck off the bedroom overlooking the private pool downstairs. There was good natural lighting pretty much everywhere in the room although there was one minor design flaw. The bathroom downstairs had a door/window to a small inner court and the dining room also looked over that same court. It was necessary to draw blinds down in the bathroom otherwise the dining room would have a view of the toilet. While our room was nice I could notice that maintenance was not quite to the same level as the large villa we had last time. Some tiles near the pool were cracked and air conditioning on the ground floor was not working. Fortunately the AC unit in the bedroom was fine which is what mattered the most. The electric mosquito repellant fell off the power outlet during our stay and the liquid spilled on the floor. While I did not ask anything, I would note that housekeeping did not replace it. Dining Breakfast was offered either in-villa or in the restaurant. Interestingly, for social distancing guests were not allowed to go to the restaurant on consecutive days so the restaurant could not be more than 50% occupied at any time. In any event we prefer in-room breakfast so we were happy avoiding the restaurant. Everything is now a la carte and they provided an extensive menu unlike some hotels which are currently cutting on the breakfast benefit under the covid excuse. Not here. I am not sure why but some dishes for breakfast were brought in small plastic containers unlike dinner. It created unnecessary plastic waste. Food was good quality as usual. Service Service during our latest stay was not as good as in March, possibly because the resort was full and they might not have been prepared for a large number of guests right off the bat. They regularly messed up on our room service orders especially breakfast where our choices were in print on paper so miscommunication possible but some minor items were frequently off. One morning they did not bring our breakfast at all and when I called in-room dining they did not pick up the phone so I had to call reception - twice. Also housekeeping was not always the most thorough and one day we found a cockroach hiding under the bed near the desk and we could not reach there. Housekeeping came and sprayed the area but they said they could not catch the cockroach. A few moments after they left and I found it and disposed of it myself. Another issue is that to settle my bill I wanted to use vouchers which I gave to reception upon check-in. They had ample time to redeem them but maybe they forgot; when we checked out it was still not done and they had problems scanning one of the vouchers which led to unnecessary delays which we ended up resolving only after I had the property. This could have been avoided if they took care of the vouchers in the days prior. Gym For this stay the gym was open. Since this resort only has about 50 rooms there is no need for a big gym - they have the minimum with view of the main pool. Overall Overall our stay was good once again although there were a few service missteps. Having tried other hotels in the Hua Hin area before such as Anantara, Hyatt Regency, and the other Sheraton not far away in Cha-am, I can say that Sheraton Pranburi Villas is not perfect but it is solid value. Even if not receiving an upgrade, the total space available is very significant, privacy is excellent, all rooms have their own pool, and breakfast remains extensive post-covid. As I mentioned in my previous review, this property does not have sea views from the room and there is not much of a beach to speak of but for travelers who intend to stay in the privacy of their villa and outdoor space outside their villa, Sheraton is a great choice.
