Just a clarification - I didn't mean to say I was dropping $$ to Hertz because they were in bankruptcy or hurting, etc. and my intention was to help them.....
What I meant to say is that as a 5 Star member who rented 15+ times in the last 12 months I thought that status - combined with the fact that I was renting a "Dream" car would: (1) hopefully result in a premium, more "touchless" experience, and (2) indicate that I was trying - as a "higher tier" member of their program to show loyalty. The experience wasn't good and Hertz didn't seem to give a hoot .......
For clarity - I am an Executive Platinum with AA, and on this same trip on my day of departure from PHX an AA premium services member texted me, personally thanked me for flying and apologized for the lounge in PHX not being fully open yet (only open for travel assistance). She told me I could nevertheless stop by the lounge in PHX as they had goodie-bags of candies for higher tier elites. I did stop by, we had a nice chat, and she thanked me (repeatedly) for being loyal to AA in these difficult times.
I also have Ambassador status with Marriott/Bonvoy and stayed at 3 different properties this trip - each thanked me (seemingly genuinely) for my loyalty, upgraded me and thanked me for supporting them in these difficult times.
So - 2 out of 3 aint bad. But on this trip at least, the difference in "customer care" between AA, Bonvoy and Hertz was striking.

P.S. I work for a big company, so I am not a neophyte regarding how big companies operate.....including in bankruptcy.
