There definitely has been a temporary shift towards more disposable due to COVID, but that's all or nothing. It doesn't make any more sense to wear gloves only one day of the week or only avoid one aspect of the bathroom when you don't know whether the rest has been cleaned.
As has been stated, there is inherently more risk in a toiletry dispenser than a towel rod. You don’t really touch the towel rod. And you can wash your hands immediately after touching other things in the room if desired. But when you’re using a communal shampoo dispenser you’re immediately putting that near your eyes.
Again, I realize it’s low risk but it’s not no risk. There was a study that concluded the virus was spread through a salt shaker.
Regardless, you can’t really argue with how people feel. Maybe most people that feel there is a risk of catching it from the shampoo dispenser are more likely to not stay in hotels at all for awhile. But hotels are going to need to try harder to get people to stay there, and I’d have to think providing single use bottles is one simple thing they can do
If a decent amount of people were against the dispensers prior to COVID-19, I have to think there’s going to be even more now...
