Very interesting. I’ve only had a very limited experience with the MD-90 and they were all fine. With that said, I think I only ever flew the type somewhere between 3 and 5 times so I’m sure that’s not really a representative sample.

As far as the MD-88 goes I honestly can only recall one major issue in the last ~20 years and that was out of MKE when the ailerons totally failed on the ground check (rather concerning). Needless to say that plane didn’t leave that day. Otherwise though, they were surprisingly reliable through the end.
