I've had this happen in "normal" times with an ex-Dub. My actual endpoint was EDI. The return leg timings were changed and it would have meant I missed a connecting flight. BA told me any destination "within 500 miles" was their standard permitted. In my case they ended up giving me a LGW-EDI flight rather than making me go back to DUB and no APD to pay.
