Now that China and most Asian countries have stopping accepting foreign trash, it has become obvious how much of plastic recycling was actually a farce. It made consumers feel good and virtuous, but was bad for the environment.
There have been articles in Sierra magazine about this.
Now that the recycling Kabuki theater has been reduced, there will be a greater emphasis on actions that truly make a difference with our environment.
It would be interesting to know how much Marriott saved at its lower-end properties through the bulk dispensers. By now they should have some hard data to look at.
Which Marriott brands still offer single-use toiletry bottles?
I don't disagree that there is a lot of green washing as well. Recycling has its place , but not everything can be recycled and therefore it isn't carte blanche to consume with a clear conscience.
As a result, any reduction of consumption is a good thing as at handles the problem at it's source.
Id be curious to see what kind of savings they have as well. Doubt we can get the data, but would be nice. Also, I believe it was more than just the lower end properties; Marriott, Westin etc. Were also part of it.
