What a trip down memory lane. I lived in Chittagong about 10 years ago, and I recognize many of the locations in your very well done pictures. The ship-breaking is a truly majestic thing to watch, but also horrible for the environment and the jobs are utterly dangerous. We were able to go into one of the yards to see it a little more up close, but even when it was more “touristy” they were still hesitant about pictures. I have a clear memory of standing below a beached half open cargo ship and being overwhelmed by how small I felt.

In fact, our apartment building was on O.R. Nizam road, just a 5-10 min walk up the road from where the Well Park is (IIRC, that didn’t exist 10 years ago or at least was overshadowed by the Peninsula Hotel across the street). There’s a fascinating War Cemetery just next to the hotel, it’s too bad you didn’t go there, it’s a piece of quiet in an otherwise noisy city. So many memories.

Thank you for a wonderful trip report, and for capturing Chittagong very well with your camera. It makes me realize that maybe I should get back there one of these days.
