Background: I have a UK passport and have been in the UK since March, I have a valid ESTA and global entry.

I need to head to the US for some client meetings sooner rather than later but also want to remain fully respectful of currently laws and restrictions. Obviously there is the restriction on anyone who's been in Europe in the past 14 days traveling to the US from Europe currently. With this in mind, I do have the possibility of flying to Mexico first as I can do some work research there, wait out the 14 days then fly to the US. Does anyone have any similar experiences or any thoughts on whether this would or wouldn't work?

Thanks for any thoughts and experiences.
The US border is officially closed to you. You are looking at a workaround which, whilst possibly technically legal, is unlikely to be viewed positively by CBP. When you enter the US after your 14-day vacation in Mexico, you'll have to enter under your ESTA, which will likely have been cancelled as you'll have to enter your API before you get on the flight. If you do manage to make it to the US border (ie you were permitted to board) your GE probably won't work as your ESTA will have been cancelled. This will lead to a lengthy and quite possibly awkward and uncomfortable secondary meeting with CBP during which I could see your GE being revoked. At the end of the day, you are travelling on a UK passport and are a UK resident. I suggest you wait it out.
