Even as a diamond I feel all the benefits are a hit and miss. Upgrades are fairly common now, but only if I check in very early in the day. Usually take my lunch to check in when traveling on business, almost always a suite at H and ES, jucuzzi suite at HI. On the other hand, never have gotten anything at Doubletree's I've stayed at. Sometimes not even cookies! (Like I need them, but it's the principle.) I must look like I don't eat at 117 lbs. so they never offer.
Best upgrades- MSP ES- 2 bedroom suite, NYC Hilton TS- large room, full breakfast( $40 p/p value on menu), 100% for jacuzzi suites at Hampton's if checking in before 5 p.m., after that it's a crap shoot. HGI- always get the coupons, upgrade to best available.
Worst- DT NYC TS- no breakfast, no upgrade, BUT great location! Hilton Anchorage- on a GLON in Sept. 2003- All Diamond amenties suspended due to a convention, including the lounge. That was surprising!
DT FLL- Refused breakfast and upgrade. Not even cookies!
Off topic- Best upgrades Ever- Luxor Las Vegas- Exective VIP Suite, Consierge level- Lounge, drinks, snacks, private elevator. During Comdex and I wasn't with Comdex. Wasn't a high roller either because I'd never been to LV. Cheap rate too!
Tropicana Atlantic City- checked in late. No reservations. Got the Presidential Suite. 3 rooms, plus huge jacuzzi. King bed facing the ocean thru huge picture window, sitting room overlooking pool from balcony w/ 6 person bar & dining table for 6, champagne, fruit basket, robes.... Never been to Atlantic City either and didn't gamble. I was there on work. Rate $129 Biggest Suprise- Got a knock on the door after I checked in. I figured they would say there was some mistake. No, ma'am, "Is there anything we can do to make your stay more enjoyable? If you need anything, please feel free to just ask!" More champagne? We'll have that delivered.
My off topics were all due to all the helpful info I receive on Flyertalk!
Hopefully I will be able to become as knowedgable as you all and help those who are just trying to muddle thru this maze of miles and points.
Karen
