I think I know what you mean - even when flights are delayed, they still tell you to report at the original time. For B2Bs at SOF, there is nowhere to report other than the gate, and it is unlikely that the gate would be closed at the original flight time if the inbound flight arrives late.
SOF is very simple, the first time I did it I was back in the gate area as passengers were still disembarking. Then I discovered the lounge, which is right by the gate and the toilets. Of course, as mentioned above, if there was some sort of arrival infection screening it could all be different.
I think I am more concerned about the outbound flight being cancelled, and then being stuck at LHR, when I am supposed to be starting an AA issued ticket in SOF, so I will probably go the day before.
