I fly stand-by a bit and not being able to access the Centurion Lounge is the single biggest issue that is holding me back from upgrading from Gold to Platinum. I really wish they'd change this rule.
Can't imagine that they will. The core issue that airline employees who work at the airport are able to generate a standby boarding pass cheaply and easily at any time, and could thus go into the Centurion Lounge to eat lunch daily and cost Amex a lot of money, will remain a constraint for Amex.
