I’ve got a TP redemption booking for Italy coming up at the end of July. Due to work commitments (I will need to catch up on lost revenue!) I might not be able to take this planned holiday and have to postpone until 2021.

I've tried phoning Marriott CS (020 7012 7312) daily, to check out my options, but the phone line seems dead.

Does anyone think if I were to contact the hotel directly, they'd be able to transfer my booking to next year, keeping the TP in-tact? Does it matter that the TP certificate will have expired by then?

The hotel is the same Category as when I booked, no change there.

Any and all advice welcome…

If you mean TP = Third Party redemption type (e.g., online travel agents, meeting planners or other third-party travel professionals) are advised to contact the relevant third party for information on the third party’s policies. If a third party cancels the event, it is the third party’s responsibility to cancel the individual reservations made on each guest’s behalf. The OP is asking about the hotel portion of the legacy Travel Package.

According to Marriott's policy, any change to the original booking will result in a new booking. In your case, since the category does not change, you'll need to call in and ask the agent to detach the TP and re-attach it again to the new booking. It has to be done by a competent service rep over the phone.

If the hotel category has changed, your best bet is to get the contact info (call?) of the hotel and get hold of the in-house reservation specialist. They might be able to move the dates. Marriott won't re-book it with the same TP. The system just won't allow it.

I believe all the TPs get extended to 1/31/2021. I just do not think travel can get back to normal before that date. So Marriott will have to extend them again. Borders are closed; flights cancelled; and hotels closed....

Regardless the reasons cited above, Marriott continues to devalue the points, free night awards and the Travel Package. General travels stops, but Marriott devaluation won't stop.

I'd wonder how many people will go back to Marriott after travel starts. There are so many hotels to choose now.
